TORREBLANCA SPAIN OCTOBER 2024

The 5th anniversary of The Old Man Baz Golf Society Spanish tour. Four course event playing La Calanova, La Cala Asia, Santana and La Cala America, 4 amazing courses with some of the best back drops I've seen on any golf course, all four courses where very challenging that had teeth in parts and the scoring showed, no run away 42 points and a lot less 4 for 4's.

New members first end of year trip with plenty of hilarious banter, loses and wins at the pool table (well played Baz), Jimbo's polite insults 'you sausage', wet weather and new outfits, crazy shorts at the airport thanks to Royal and Awesome (Jimbo you where robbed), some very dodge driving and a jump that Evil Knievel would be proud of, shame about the landing Baz, Jimbo and Baz needing a new alarm clock.

Some suspect live leader board leagues thanks to Squabbit although H wasn't a big fan, and the dreaded wooden spoon to get rid of and hopefully not end up with after day one.

Again the age old question rolls on with many an opinion, how do you wipe your arse, are you a stander or a sitter.

Day 1

As early starts go this was an early start with a 6am flight to catch and a tee time of 1.30 pm at La Calanova we all had an early start to say the least. With all members adorned in new society polos and crazy shorts, we turned a few heads in the airport.

With the sun shining (what we all came for) and Jimbo needing to lose the wooden spoon and the rest of us all desperate not to end up with it after day one we all had some work to do, with the course having lots of danger around every turn its going to take a good score to come out on top and with 34 points Damo comes out on top, but who gets the dreaded wooden spoon unlucky Ged better luck tomorrow mate.

Day 2

Another early pick up for our second round tee of time 9am at the La Cala golf resort playing the Asia course, and after day one Damo takes a slim 1 point lead going into day 2 and all to play for from the chasing pack. With a stunning sun rise over the hills it looked to be the perfect day for golf. With plenty of hills and blind tee shots the course had a lot to overcome to walk away with a win.

But the clouds rolled in and the rain came down and not many of us packed wet weather gear for Spain (who would of thought we would have needed it or winter tyres) the weather hampered our leader and day two's winner goes to Jack with a very impressive 36 points and the dreaded wooden spoon changed hands again moving to Gerry, all to play for going into day 3.

Day 3

Day 3 was a surprisingly better course than first impressions realised, Santana golf course was a lot flatter but still proved to have teeth that challenged us all as the scores showed, with Sammy going into day 3 with a 3 point lead could the rest of us make up the ground and more importantly could Gerry lose the wooden spoon.

Day 3 winner is Nick with a very good 38 points giving Nick and Jacks team hopes a big boost to winning the Dads-n-Lads, but I don't think Jack got the memo with him only scoring 23 points to earn Jack the privilege of holding the wooden spoon.

Day 4

Going into day 4 with Sammy at the top of the leader board with a slim 3 point lead it was all to play for despite teeing off in the dark and Jimbo and Baz over sleeping and missing the mini bus and have to get a taxi. The spectacular La Cala golf resort America course and again the weather wasn't what we had signed up for, with a damp start but the sun did finally make an appearance.

With so epic scoring good and Bad H takes the win for the day with a very good 39 points just edging out Nick by 6 points and helping team H and Matty take the top tean spot putting Nick and Jake in second spot.

After completely falling apart with just 18 points Willow is left holding onto the wooden spoon till the next time we all meet.

The 5th Old Man Baz Golf Society tour was won by H for the second time with a very good score despite the courses with 139 points.
